Key Points:
• Recommended Files in File Explorer: Insiders with personal Microsoft accounts will see a new Recommended section in File Explorer, showcasing frequently used, recently downloaded, and added files with thumbnail previews.
• Start Menu Improvements: A new feature in the Recommended section of the Start menu will suggest apps to snap together, while search providers for web search are improved in the EEA (European Economic Area).
• Beta Channel Rollout: Beta Channel Insiders will receive updates based on Windows 11, version 24H2, with features rolled out gradually to this channel using Control Feature Rollout technology, and users can turn on the toggle to receive updates as they become available.
Hello Windows Insiders! Today, we’re excited to bring you the latest build, Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22635.5025 (KB5053661) to the Beta Channel. This build is a significant step forward in our efforts to refine and improve the Windows experience.
One of the most notable changes is the introduction of Recommended Files in File Explorer, which will be available to all Insiders signed in with their personal Microsoft account or local accounts. This feature uses machine learning to suggest files you frequently use, have recently downloaded, or added to your File Explorer Gallery. For users with work or school accounts (Entra ID), additional types of recommendations will be available. Quick access folders will still be available in the navigation pane for easy access to pinned folders.
In the Start menu, we’re testing a new feature that recommends snap groups based on the two apps that are most likely to be snapped together. We’d love to hear your thoughts on this!
Search on the Taskbar has received an update, with improved support for web search providers in the EEA, including increased discoverability.
On the fix front, we’ve addressed an issue that was causing File Explorer to be slow to close for some Insiders when using the X button, which may have also affected other title bar buttons.
However, we’re aware of a few known issues with the new grid and category views on the All" page in the Start menu, including delays in app icons appearing and issues with Windows Tools apps being broken out into folders instead of being in one single app.
As Insiders in the Beta Channel, you will receive updates based on Windows 11, version 24H2, via an enablement package (Build 22635.xxxx). Many features in the Beta Channel are rolled out using Control Feature Rollout technology, starting with a subset of Insiders and ramping up over time as we monitor feedback. If you want to be the first to get features rolled out, you can turn on the toggle to get the latest updates as they become available.
Thank you for your continued feedback, and we look forward to hearing your thoughts on these new features and changes.
