A new development has emerged in the world of cloud computing, as Cisco announces further enhancements to its hybrid cloud offerings and integration with Amazon Web Services (AWS). The company has bolstered its network troubleshooting capabilities, making it easier for enterprises to identify and troubleshoot application availability issues across their multicloud environments.
The key to this increased visibility lies in the integration of Cisco’s container security technology, which was acquired as part of its Isovalent purchase. This technology, which includes eBPF (extended Berkeley packet filter), allows for the secure and seamless processing of network data in the kernel of the operating system. This capability enables customers to incorporate security, observability, and networking features without requiring extensive programming or kernel modifications.
The new integration between Cisco’s Isovalent Enterprise and AWS allows for the direct transfer of networking telemetry data to Amazon CloudWatch Network Monitoring, giving customers a clearer view of their hybrid network connections and performance. This integration enables workload data to be correlated with actual network performance metrics in AWS environments, providing a more complete picture of network operations.
For Kubernetes users, including those running on AWS Elastic Kubernetes Service, Cilium – the eBPF-based Cilium project – provides kernel-level visibility, giving them insights into process-level activity within all workloads. This allows for real-time monitoring of network performance metrics, visualizing the entire application path, and correlating all data for rapid troubleshooting.
According to Cisco, this integration reduces the time it takes to resolve network issues from days to minutes, eliminating the need for finger-pointing between teams. As part of its ongoing efforts to support hybrid cloud environments, Cisco has also integrated its ThousandEyes network intelligence platform with AWS CloudWatch.
