Microsoft Releases New Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27818 to Canary Channel

Microsoft has announced the release of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27818 to the Canary Channel, a channel that provides early access to the latest platform changes in the development cycle. This update includes a small set of general improvements and fixes that aim to improve the overall experience for Insiders running this build on their PCs.

Changes and Improvements:

The update includes several changes and improvements, including:

  • A change in the Windows Security app, which will now display more detailed information about Pluton TPM chips, including the manufacturer and manufacturer version, under the "Device security" and "Security processor details" sections.
  • Disabling suggested actions when copying phone numbers or future dates in Windows 11.
  • Several fixes, including a crash that was causing multiple apps to fail to launch, and issues with File Explorer, the taskbar, and input.

Fixes:

The update also includes a number of fixes, including:

  • A fix for a crash that was causing multiple apps to fail to launch.
  • Improvements to the performance of extracting zipped files in File Explorer, particularly when unzipping large numbers of small files.
  • Fixes for issues with the taskbar app window previews and the underlines under app icons in the taskbar.
  • A fix for a high-profile ctmon.exe crash that was impacting the ability to type.
  • And several other fixes, including issues with Settings, graphics, and remote desktop.

Known Issues:

Despite the many improvements and fixes, there are still some known issues with this build, including:

  • An issue affecting Co-Pilot+ PCs, where joining the Canary Channel can result in the loss of Windows Hello pin and biometrics.
  • A bug that is causing taskbar icons not to increase in size when using a tablet posture.
  • Several other issues, including problems with localization and the inability to switch to a channel with a lower build number.

Reminders for Windows Insiders:

As with all Insider builds, it’s important to note that the builds released to the Canary Channel are early and experimental, and features and experiences may change or be removed over time. Some features may show up in future Windows releases, while others may not. It’s also important to be aware that Insiders can’t switch to a channel with a lower build number without doing a clean installation of Windows 11.
