As reported by Bloomberg News, HPE’s proposed $14 billion acquisition of Juniper Networks has raised concerns with the US Department of Justice. Despite this, the CEOs of both companies have spoken about the future of the blended entity, with a focus on AI networking technology.

At the recent HPE Discover event in Barcelona, HPE CEO Antonio Neri emphasized the importance of networking in enabling AI. "Networking is one of the core tenants that’s going to enable and advance AI," he said. Neri highlighted the need for a modern networking foundation, from client to cloud, to connect data and support AI workloads.

The combination of HPE and Juniper, Neri stated, will take the network of the future a giant leap forward. "The Juniper deal will be an essential piece of the puzzle. Because together, we expect to have a lineup of secure AI-native network solutions to deliver exceptional user experiences across all segments – enterprise, cloud, and service providers."

Rami Rahim, CEO of Juniper Networks, added that the combined company will have more customers and devices deployed globally, allowing for more effective AIOps (Artificial Intelligence for IT Operations) capabilities. Rahim emphasized the importance of a robust network fabric for AI workloads, stating that "today’s AI models require a network that’s fast, flexible, and secure."

The HPE-Juniper deal is expected to close by the end of 2024 or early 2025, pending regulatory approval. The company may delay the deal until President-elect Trump takes office, hoping for a more favorable review.
