Microsoft Announces Enhancements to Edge for Business for Secure Endpoints
Microsoft has announced new upgrades to Edge for Business, its secure enterprise browser optimized for AI, designed to address the challenges posed by flexible work arrangements, cybersecurity threats, and the need for secure and compliant AI usage. As many organizations now allow employees to use their personal devices for work, securing these endpoints has become a priority.
Edge for Business is already optimized for AI, extending enterprise-grade protections from Microsoft 365 E3 and E5 licenses, and now, with the introduction of new native data protection, it also extends data security controls to personal or unmanaged devices. This means that organizations can ensure secure access to corporate resources, even on devices outside of corporate control.
The enhancements include inline discovery and protection for consumer AI apps, such as ChatGPT and DeepSeek. This feature allows administrators to prevent users from submitting sensitive data to these apps, starting with ChatGPT, DeepSeek, Google Gemini, and Microsoft Copilot.
Microsoft’s solution is designed to provide a comprehensive secure enterprise browser experience, combining Edge for Business, Intune, and Purview to create a secure, context-aware Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) browsing experience. Intune performs device health checks to ensure only devices meeting specific security standards can access corporate resources, and app protection policies enforce all access to corporate resources through Edge for Business.
The new inline protection capability in Purview allows administrators to prevent users from sending typed prompts containing sensitive data to consumer AI apps, ensuring that sensitive data is not leaked through unsanctioned AI app usage. This feature is now available in preview with Microsoft 365 E5 licenses.
With Edge for Business, organizations can ensure secure and compliant AI usage, while also providing employees with the productivity and flexibility they need. As the use of AI in the organization continues to evolve, Microsoft’s solution is designed to meet these changing needs, providing a secure and comprehensive approach to browser security. Organizations can now get started with Edge for Business, the secure enterprise browser optimized for AI.
