Microsoft has released a new build to the Beta Channel for Windows Insiders on Windows 11, version 23H2. This build includes a small set of general improvements and fixes that improve the overall experience for Insiders running this build on their PCs.

New Features and Improvements

The build introduces a change that will make File Explorer folders open in a new tab when launched from outside of File Explorer, if an existing File Explorer window is already open. This feature can be changed in File Explorer folder options. The build also brings back the labels on unlabeled actions in the File Explorer context menu, which were previously disabled.

Fixes

The build includes several fixes, including:

  • An issue where the sign out and more options buttons may not be visible in the Start menu account manager when using increased text size.
  • An issue where File Explorer would crash when copying or renaming files in recent builds.
  • An issue where some apps might stop working after disconnecting from a remote desktop session.

Known Issues

  • The Start menu’s new grid and category views may not work as expected, with issues such as flashing context menus when right-clicking on apps.

Reminders for Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel

Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel on Windows 11, version 23H2 will receive updates based on Windows 11, version 23H2 via an enablement package. Some features may be rolled out using Controlled Feature Rollout technology, starting with a subset of Insiders and ramping up over time. Insiders can turn on the toggle to get the latest updates as they are available via Settings > Windows Update.
