Hello Windows Insiders! Today, we’re releasing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22635.4870 (KB5050087) to the Beta Channel, exclusively for those who didn’t upgrade to Windows 11, version 24H2. This new build ships with a range of new features, improvements, and bug fixes, carefully crafted to enhance your Windows 11 experience.
One of the most exciting new features is the introduction of lock screen widgets, which will gradually be rolled out to Insiders in the European Economic Area (EEA). This feature will allow you to customize your lock screen with widgets such as Weather, Watchlist, Sports, and more, and even rearrange them to your liking. IT administrators can also use a new group policy called "Disable Widgets On Lock Screen" to disable lock screen widgets on managed PCs.
In addition to this, File Explorer is getting a facelift for Insiders signed in with a work or school account (Entra ID). When you hover or click on a person icon under the "Activity" column, it will display the Live Persona Card for that person from Microsoft 365. This feature will help you stay connected with your work or school colleagues more easily.
Several bug fixes have also been rolled out to address issues with File Explorer, Start menu, and USB cameras and audio devices. For instance, the issue causing Start menu to crash for some Insiders when interacting with the letters in the apps list has been fixed, as has the issue with File Explorer being slow to close when using the X button. Additionally, the "Your device does not recognize the camera is on" issue with USB cameras and the "This device cannot start" error message with USB audio device drivers have been resolved.
To keep up with the latest updates, Insiders can turn on the toggle to get the latest updates as they are available (via Settings > Windows Update), and we’ll gradually roll out more features to everyone in the Beta Channel. As always, we appreciate your feedback, and if you encounter any issues, please file them in the Feedback Hub under Desktop Environment > Lock screen.
Stay tuned for more exciting updates from the Windows team!
