Windows Insiders, rejoice! Microsoft has just released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27774 to the Canary Channel, along with updated ISOs for download. This build is packed with general improvements and fixes aimed at enhancing the overall experience for Insiders running this build on their PCs.
One of the main changes is the introduction of administrator protection, which can be enabled through the Windows Security settings under the Account Protection tab. This feature allows users to enable this protection without relying on IT admins. It’s a significant step forward in securing Windows and giving users more control over their accounts.
Another significant update is the confirmation dialog when installing Windows from installation media. When formatting or deleting partitions, users will now see a confirmation dialog to prevent accidental data loss. This is a crucial feature that ensures users are careful when making changes to their system.
The build also includes a small set of fixes to address issues such as accent-colored window borders, window launching animations, and the Xbox app’s tendency to fail to launch with a "Please try again" error.
However, it’s essential to note that some issues have been identified, and Microsoft is working on resolving them. For example, on Copilot+ PCs, joining the Canary Channel from the Dev Channel, Release Preview Channel, or retail may result in the loss of Windows Hello pin and biometrics for signing in with error 0xd0000225 and the message "Something went wrong, and your PIN isn’t available." Users should be able to recreate their PIN by clicking "Set up my PIN."
The build also includes some known issues, such as SFC /scannow showing errors every time it’s run and File Explorer windows not rendering correctly after minimizing and restoring. Additionally, using MTSC.exe for Remote Desktop may fail on this build with error 0x80080005.
As a reminder, the Canary Channel represents the latest platform changes early in the development cycle, and features and experiences included in these builds may not necessarily get released. Some features may change, be removed, or replaced, and some may show up in future Windows releases when they’re ready.
So, head to the Flight Hub for a complete look at what build is in which Insider channel, and get prepared for what’s to come in the world of Windows 11!
