Microsoft Edge is pleased to announce its participation in the fifth edition of the Interop project: Interop 2025. This project brings together browser implementers, including Apple, Bocoup, Igalia, Google, and Mozilla, to improve interoperability on the web platform. Interoperability is crucial as it ensures that code written for the web works consistently across different browsers and devices.
Over the past four years, Interop has identified and addressed various pain points, such as issues with CSS styling, layout, and new HTML elements. Last year, Interop helped resolve problems with the Popover API, declarative shadow DOM, and CSS nesting, making it possible for these features to work across all browsers.
For Interop 2025, the focus is on a range of exciting new areas, including CSS anchor positioning, View Transitions, Navigation API, backdrop-filter, JSON module scripts, Core Web Vitals LCP and INP metrics, Storage Access API, and more. These areas were chosen through a collaborative process involving input from developers, browser implementers, and other stakeholders.
To provide greater transparency, Microsoft Edge has launched a supplementary Top Developer Needs dashboard to track the improvements made to address long-lived interoperability gaps. This dashboard will be updated regularly to reflect the progress made in addressing these issues.
