Microsoft has released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22635.5160 (KB5053654) to the Beta Channel for Windows Insiders on Windows 11, version 23H2. The update includes new features, improvements, and fixes, with some rolling out gradually to Insiders who have turned on the toggle to get the latest updates.
Speech Recap in Narrator
One of the notable features introduced in this build is speech recap in Narrator, a feature designed to help users keep track of what Narrator has spoken and access it for quick reference. With speech recap, users can quickly access spoken content, follow live transcription, and copy what Narrator last said with simple keyboard shortcuts. The new speech recap window can be opened with Narrator key + Alt + X, and users can use standard reading commands and arrow keys to read the contents in the window and copy text as needed.
Copilot on Windows
Another feature being rolled out in this build is the ability to launch Copilot on Windows with Win + C. Users can personalize their Copilot key and Win + C experience at any time with the existing "Customize Copilot key on keyboard" option under Settings > Personalization > Text input. Users can also interact with Copilot using their voice with the "press to talk" feature, which is supported in the latest Copilot app update (version 1.25033.139.0 and higher).
Windows Share and Image Editing
The Windows share window has been updated to allow users to quickly edit and enhance images while sharing, including in-line image editing capabilities and the ability to compress images to reduce file size for easier sharing. This feature only works for local images stored on the user’s PC.
Settings and FAQs
The Settings app has been updated to include a dedicated FAQs section on the System > About page, providing quick and helpful insights for using the PC. The FAQs cover common questions about system configuration, performance, and compatibility.
Fixes and Known Issues
The update also includes fixes for various issues, including a delay in app icons showing in grid and category views after installing an app. However, there are some known issues, including a problem with the Start menu grid and category views on the All" page, where the "Start settings" context menu flashes before the app’s context menu appears.
Reminders for Windows Insiders
Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel on Windows 11, version 23H2 will receive updates based on Windows 11, version 23H2 via an enablement package (Build 22635.xxxx). Features in the Beta Channel are rolled out using Controlled Feature Rollout technology, starting with a subset of Insiders and ramping up over time as feedback is collected.
Microsoft encourages Insiders to turn on the toggle to get the latest updates as they are available via Settings > Windows Update to be the first to get features gradually rolled out.
