Microsoft has announced the release of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26120.3872 (KB5055640) to the Beta Channel for Windows Insiders on Windows 11, version 24H2. This update introduces several new features, improvements, and fixes, with a focus on enhancing the Copilot+ PC experience.
New Copilot+ PC Experiences
The update brings two new text actions in Click to Do:
- Practice in Reading Coach: This feature allows users to improve their reading fluency and pronunciation by selecting recognized text on their screen and reading it aloud, receiving feedback and guidance from the Reading Coach. The Microsoft Reading Coach application must be installed from the Microsoft Store to use this feature.
- Read with Immersive Reader: This action enhances the reading experience by displaying recognized text in a distraction-free environment, offering customization options for text size, spacing, font, and background theme. It also includes features like text-to-speech, syllable breaks, and a picture dictionary for unfamiliar words. The Microsoft Reading Coach application is also required for this feature.
These text actions in Click to Do are currently rolling out to Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs, with support for AMD and Intel-powered Copilot+ PCs expected soon.
Enhanced Windows Search
Windows Insiders in the European Economic Area (EEA) can now search for photos saved in the cloud using the Windows search box on the taskbar. This feature allows users to find cloud-stored photos by describing them (e.g., "European castles" or "summer picnics"). The search results will include both locally stored and cloud-stored photos. Improved Windows Search is gradually rolling out to Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs, with support for AMD and Intel-powered Copilot+ PCs coming soon.
Voice Access Improvements
The update introduces several voice access improvements:
- Add custom words to the dictionary: Users can now add their own words, including difficult-to-pronounce ones, to the dictionary to improve dictation accuracy. This feature is available in supported languages (English, French, German, Spanish, and Chinese).
- Discoverability features: Voice access will now announce new features and improvements through an immersive in-product experience.
- Accessibility flyout integration: Voice access is now accessible via the Accessibility flyout in the system tray of the taskbar.
Additional Changes and Fixes
Other notable changes and fixes include:
- File Explorer: Folders launched from outside File Explorer will now open in a new tab by default, with an option to change this behavior in Folder Options.
- Widgets: Insiders in the EEA can now control notifications per feed or dashboard on the notification settings page.
- Windows Security: The Windows Security app will display more details for Pluton TPM chips, including manufacturer and version information.
- Settings: The dialog for renaming printers has been updated to match Windows 11 visuals.
Fixes
The update addresses several issues, including:
- Start menu crashes when creating folders
- Search functionality issues, such as slow loading and focus transfer problems
- App installation problems (e.g., Spotify) with the 0x80070032 error
Known Issues
Microsoft has acknowledged several known issues, including:
- Windows Sandbox launch failures (0x800705b4 error)
- Windows Hello facial recognition issues for some Insiders
- Click to Do launch failures and temp folder image storage issues
Reminders for Windows Insiders
- Beta Channel updates are based on Windows 11, version 24H2 and may include features that are not fully localized or may be removed in future updates.
- Controlled Feature Rollout technology is used to gradually roll out features to Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel.
Microsoft continues to emphasize the importance of user feedback in shaping the development of Windows 11. Insiders are encouraged to report issues and provide feedback through the Feedback Hub (WIN + F) to help improve the overall user experience. As the development process unfolds, Microsoft will address known issues and introduce new features, ultimately refining the Windows 11 experience for its global user base.
