Windows 11 Update Bringing Improved Search and Photo Searching Capabilities to Copilot+ PCs

Microsoft has released a new update for Windows 11, bringing improved search and photo searching capabilities to Copilot+ PCs. The update, marked Windows 11 Build 26100.3624 (KB5053656), is now available for Insiders in the Release Preview Channel on Windows 11, version 24H2 (Build 26100).

According to Microsoft, this update includes all the same improvements and fixes from Build 26100.3613, plus the additional features gradually rolling out for Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs. These features will be rolled out gradually, with new search improvements and photo searching capabilities available on Copilot+ PCs initially.

One of the notable improvements is the enhanced Windows Search, which is designed to make it easier for users to find their documents, photos, and settings across Windows 11. The improved search is powered by semantic indexing models and traditional lexical indexing, allowing users to search for items using natural language. This means users no longer need to remember file names or exact words in file content to find what they’re looking for.

Another significant feature is the ability to search for photos stored locally on the Copilot+ PC, as well as photos from the cloud. Users can use their own words in the search box to find photos, and the search results will show exact matches for their keywords within the text of their cloud files.

What’s Next?

The features will be rolled out gradually, with support for AMD and Intel-powered Copilot+ PCs coming soon. The Windows Insider Program Team has encouraged users to try out the new search experience with their personal OneDrive when signed in with their Microsoft account and connected to the internet. For more information about the semantic search capabilities on Copilot+ PCs, users can refer to the company’s official documentation.

Overall, this update marks an important step forward for search capabilities on Windows 11, making it easier for users to find what they need in a more intuitive and natural way.
