Microsoft has released a new update for Windows Insiders in the Release Preview Channel, packing a range of new features and improvements. [Taskbar] is one of the highlighted areas, which now offers enhanced preview animations that provide a better user experience. This update may not be available to all users yet, but it’s worth keeping an eye on.
One of the [Windows Studio Effects] enhancements includes an icon that appears in the system tray when an app supporting this technology is in use. This will allow users to quickly access and control their video and audio recording settings. Devices with neural processing units (NPUs) are required for this feature to function.
The [Fonts] section has added Simsun-ExtG, a new simplified Chinese font with over 9,000 new ideographs and extension characters, supporting Unicode extensions G, H, and I.
[File Explorer] has been overhauled to provide quick access to shared files and emails via a new tab, making it easier to navigate and share files with others.
The [Mobile Hotspot] feature has been improved with 6 GHz connectivity support, allowing users to take advantage of faster speeds with compatible devices. Users can manage their mobile hotspot settings in Settings > Network & internet > Mobile hotspot.
Some other notable [Settings] improvements include a new time zone management option available without admin permissions and an overhaul of the mouse cursor system with reduced stuttering and improved navigation.
On the bug-fix front, Microsoft has tackled issues in [Fonts], [Mouse], [Pinyin IME], [Snipping Tool], [Task Manager], [Microsoft Excel 2016], [Dam.sys], and [Windows Update Installation] to improve overall user experience.
Some of these improvements, such as [Taskbar] animations, will only be available after the update completes its gradual rollout. Users who opt for a normal rollout may still receive all the updates.
Overall, this latest update should provide a smooth and refined user experience for Windows Insiders and a glimpse into what’s in store for Windows 11, version 24H2, when it arrives for the wider public.
